Divorce Due Diligence
Driven by Dishonesty
Divorce lawyers acting for the chairman of a blue chip financial institution contacted us to investigate the financial disclosures of his estranged wife, whom he had married only a few years earlier. Among other things, she claimed the divorce settlement would have to include a yearly financial provision for a chauffeur and a car, because she was no longer capable of driving. She provided letters from two unconnected physicians to support this. However, among other things, our surveillance teams covertly filmed her driving her own car almost daily. Some of her journeys involved trips exceeding 200 miles each way.
Under cross-examination in court she maintained that, just has her doctors’ letters attested, she was unable to drive… until our secret video footage was disclosed, upon which she admitted to lying. The court struck out her demand for the car and driver, and drastically reduced the sum of her other financial demands based on claimed illness, including 50 percent of her husband’s pension fund.
